On March 3, 2025 at The Listening Room Café, Nashville’s all-female, singer-songwriter collective Song Suffragettes celebrated its 11th Anniversary in front of a sold-out crowd. After a welcome from Song Suffragettes’ founder Todd Cassetty and Event Director Maddie Lenhart, the night kicked off with a writers’ round featuring six Song Suffragettes alumnae including Nashville Harbor Records’ Shaylen, Shelby Rae, Abby Cates, Mōriah and host Regan Stewart. Multi-instrumentalist and resident cajon player Mia Morris backed all performances in addition to performing an original song of her own. A second writers’ round followed with Sony Music Nashville’s Karley Scott Collins, Summer Joy, Anna Vaus, Shantaia and Nettwerk Music Group’s Molly Grace who hosted the round backed once again by Mia Morris. LB Cantrell, Editor of MusicRow magazine, then took the stage for a half hour interview with the night’s honoree, reigning ACM Songwriter of the Year Jessie Jo Dillon. Dillon shared stories of her songwriting journey, insights on her writing process and advice for the next generation of women singer-songwriters. Said Dillon about her female co-writers, “I think it’s so important to have that sisterhood with your girls whether you’re a writer or an artist...and always pull each other into things when you can.” “I think there’s room for all of us if we lift each other up,” said the six-time GRAMMY® nominee who has penned classic songs like “Am I Okay?” (Megan Moroney), “Memory Lane” (Old Dominion), “Break Up In The End” (Cole Swindell), “Rich” (Maren Morris), and “Baggage” (Kelsea Ballerini). Cassetty and Lenhart returned to the stage to present Dillon with the “Song Suffragettes Yellow Rose of Inspiration Award,” an honor bestowed on a female songwriter who has inspired the many Song Suffragettes women who hope to follow in Dillon’s successful footsteps. Previous recipients include Liz Rose, Laura Veltz, Ashley McBryde, Kelsea Ballerini, Natalie Hemby and Wynonna Judd. To close the night, Columbia Records’ Alana Springsteen performed songs that Jessie Jo Dillon penned including “Lies, Lies, Lies” (Morgan Wallen), “Trust Issues” (Alana Springsteen), “Buried” (Brandy Clark) and “10,000 Hours” (Dan + Shay with Justin Bieber). Said Springsteen about Dillon, “Being an ‘outlaw’ in country music today is standing up to these really powerful forces and championing songwriters, and Jessie is the epitome of that.” Throughout the night, Cassetty took moments to recount the eleven-year history of Song Suffragettes and the successes that have come from the all-female singer-songwriter collective. With alumnae like Lainey Wilson, Megan Moroney, Brittany Spencer, Carly Pearce, Gayle and Kelsea Ballerini, Song Suffragettes has curated almost 500 talented singer-songwriters from thousands of submissions with 52 going on to receive recording contracts and over 76 landing publishing deals. Cassetty also thanked The Listening Room Café, Song Suffragettes’ intern team and the night’s Presenting Sponsor, Truist Bank, for making the 11th anniversary celebration a success.
