As much as I love Genshin, Hoyo needs to do something about four stars. Many people think of four-star characters as “free-to-play-friendly”, and for a long while it was common to assume everyone would have several important ones at high constellation. But over time, it’s become more and more obvious that they’re anything but. The way it’s all set up is horrible for all types of players — people who just started have an uphill battle to get those key staples who are essential to so many teams, long-term players with a limited budget struggle to get the specific four stars they really want, and even whales can have a tough time if they want to get to higher cons. Clearly, Hoyo must think the current setup is a net positive for them.
