Welcome to Stittsville, a thriving and growing suburb of the City of Ottawa that still maintains it’s friendly Village feel. Stittsville itself was born in the 1850s and named for Jackson Stitt who was the town’s first postmaster. In 1870, the Great Carleton Fire devastated the community, destroying almost everything in its path. Kemp's Tavern on Hazeldean Road, now home to Cabotto's Restaurant, and a handful of other buildings were all that was left standing. This was an extremely large fire, encompassing over 250,000 acres from Ottawa to Smiths Falls to Carleton Place. It’s a fascinating piece of history and if you’re interested in knowing more, you can click on the link in the comments section below. Today, Stittsville is a growing suburb to the southwest of Kanata and 31 km from downtown Ottawa. With a population of over 40,000 people, Stittsville has great restaurants, shopping and recreation, including superb access to the Trans-Canada Trail, The Cardel Recreation Centre, a local golf course, tennis and pickleball. Many small businesses call Stittsville home and residents are happy to shop local. If you’re thinking of making a move to Ottawa, I’d love to introduce you to this special place.
