Scenes of childhood are depicted by the lively Allegro section, while the following lyrical Lento section expresses the journey towards adulthood. The Allegro section is recapitulated, and the piece ends with a playful coda. The hybrid of Chinese pentatonic scales and western chromatic scales give a fresh sound to traditional instruments. Composed by WANG Chenwei in 2005 at the age of 16, this piece was originally written for the Ruan (Chinese lute) ensemble and later re-arranged for string ensemble.
