A walk from the village of Grasmere up to the Wainwright Fell of Stone Arthur (503m) This was the first of two walks we did on this day. After completing Stone Arthur we then drove to Thirlmere and walked up to Raven Crag. The walk starts from the parking area beside the A591 on the outskirts of Grasmere in the Lake District. From the parking area we walk towards the Swan Inn and turn left at the pub. We then head up the road and take the second lane on the right. At the end of the Lane we head through a gate and turn left on the path up to Stone Arthur. The path is easy to follow all the way up and is a mixture of stone steps and grassy paths. There is great views on the way up looking back over Grasmere and the fells beyond. The summit of Grasmere is a rocky outcrop which is easily climbed from the side. The views from the summit are really good looking over Grasmere and towards Easedale Tarn. We then retrace our steps back down using the same path as the outward route. As we were walking towards the car we were treated to a fly over by two low flying jets. Total Distance out and back is around 3.5 miles.
