Today I’m speaking with Sustainability Champion Debra Prinzing, the founder of the Slow Flower Movement. Did you know 80% of mass-produced flowers grown in the US often come from outside the US and are grown using harsh chemicals and pesticides? The Slow Flower Movement is all about sourcing flowers that are grown locally, seasonally and without any chemicals. Debra’s website slowflowers.com connects consumers to farmers, florists, and grocery stores offering domestic blooms to make it easier to find each other. Debra has written two books on the topic, Slow Flowers: Four Seasons of Locally Grown Bouquets from the Garden, Meadow and Farm and The 50 Mile Bouquet: Seasonal, Local and Sustainable Flowers.
