Slow build on this one - used some patches on the ck88 that sound vaguely renaissance ish. “Babe of Bethlehem” is an early American hymn from the late eighteenth and early nineteenth-century shape-note tradition, marked by modal contours and a folk-rooted melodic style. Its simplicity makes it adaptable to many textures, including Renaissance-inspired instrument patches on the Yamaha CK88. These sounds highlight the tune’s Old World character and invite subtle improvisation between verses. The hymn’s long life in oral tradition has encouraged performers to treat it flexibly, shifting colors to match the text’s pastoral atmosphere. This rendition blends voice with soft early-music textures for a gentle, contemplative sound. Performed by Tim Hall.
