REINGA is a wearable art artefact created as a respectful tribute to Māori spiritual philosophy and the sacred journey of the wairua. Inspired by Te Rerenga Wairua (Cape Reinga), where the Tasman Sea meets the Pacific Ocean, this sculptural work reflects the belief that when life ends, the spirit travels north, pauses at the ancient Pōhutukawa tree, and begins its return to Hawaiki — the ancestral homeland. This piece was shaped through over five thousand hours of uncompromising handwork. Every detail was created by hand — not to decorate the body, but to carry meaning. Fine hand embroidery, precision-wired sculptural structures, and layered bead architecture come together to form a ceremonial silhouette that honours stillness, departure, and eternal connection. REINGA is not fashion. It is not costume. It is a vessel of memory, cultural respect, and devotion translated into wearable sculpture. Created in Aotearoa New Zealand by award-winning wearable sculpture artist Sheetol Chawla, this film documents the unveiling of REINGA and the philosophy behind its making. Celebrating 100 years of Indian advocacy and service through NZICA, represents resilience, contributions and community leadership- A legacy build through decilitre, courage, and service. REINGA carries a message: When cultures honour each other, legacy becomes deeper than art — it becomes respect.
