Following the 2017 Doklam standoff, most Indian analysis has concluded that China holds a conventional and nuclear edge over India. However, a recent report by Frank O'Donnell and Alexander Bollfrass suggests that this pessimistic Indian assessment of the balance of forces may be mistaken and a poor guide for Indian security policy. The authors question the efficacy of investing large sums in ballistic missile submarines and ICBMs and offer a different evaluation for Indian forces positioned against China.
