Innovator Spotlight: Benjamin Freud from Green School Bali

The Biomimicry for Regenerative Design (BiRD) Lab at Green School Bali is a hands-on learning space where students design real-world solutions by observing and learning directly from nature. Using a process called the 4S approach—Sensing, Seeking, Shaping, and Storytelling—students start by listening to the environment and community, then dive into research and creative problem-solving, before sharing their prototypes and stories with others. Rather than learning from textbooks, they’re sketching ideas in the jungle, building with bamboo, or testing water filters inspired by how mangroves purify saltwater. The BiRD Lab isn’t just a classroom—it’s a design studio, science lab, and storytelling circle all in one, where learning is rooted in place, purpose, and the patterns of the living world.
