Five Tips for Pairing Whisky and Cigars // The Whisky Hunter

This week I had the pleasure of teaming up with Kurt Bradley, the Brand Ambassador for House of Horvath (Canada's Cigar Company). He is also the creator of The Gentlemen's Flavor and he's a Certified Whisky Ambassador accredited by the Scotch Whisky Association. Kurt educated me on cigars, cigar and whisky pairings and he confirmed my belief that people who enjoy whisky and cigars are some of the coolest people on the planet! With Kurt's guidance we came up with 'Five Tips for Pairing Whisky and Cigars'! Hope you enjoy it!! Cheers Folks! The Whisky Hunter 1. STRENGTH FOR STRENGTH It's good to match the strength of the cigar with the strength of the whisky. For example, try pairing a full bodied cigar with a bold, smoky whisky. 2. FLAVOR EXPLOSION Pairing cigars and whisky will draw out new flavors or simply magnify ones already present. Welcome to flavortown! 3. TAKE BREAKS Sipping sparkling water between cigar puffs and whisky sips can reset/refresh your palate. 4. RULE OF THIRDS Cigars can be broken down into three thirds; First Third is called The Hay. It has a pleasant taste but not a true representation of the cigar. The Middle Third is the sweet spot often called The Heaven! The Final Third is called The Hell. At this point the taste becomes hot and charred. 5. GROW THE ASH A cigar's ash is meant to not be knocked off frequently.
