Understanding stress and strain in mechanics of materials is really important. To properly understand stress and strain, we will take a look at three different scenarios where we will analyze three different concept of stress and strain. These scenarios will help us understand stress and strain. Stress is basically the applied force divided by the area while the strain is the change in the length of the member due to the stress or strain is the change in the length divided by the original length.
