You can even hike in the Rio Grande if the water level is low enough, and canoeing the river down from Terlingua is a popular thing to do here, and probably one of the best Big Bend experiences. You will also be hiking along the US-Mexico border here, but don't worry, as smuggling activity is extremely rare here, and the area is very well patrolled by rangers and nature itself.
