On May 12, 2015, an Amtrak Northeast Regional train (Train 188) from Washington, D.C. to New York City derailed along the Northeast Corridor in the Port Richmond neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. 8 people were killed and over 200 injured. The train was traveling at a speed of 102 mph (164 km/h) in a 50 mph (80 km/h) zone of curved tracks when it derailed. Investigators are willing to find out why the train went so fast and what can be done to prevent future accidents. The crash is known to be the deadliest wreck on the Northeast Corridor since 1987.
