Our Puerto Rico Sailing Vacation to the Lighthouse! We took a break from our vacation life to start exploring Puerto Rico by sea! Most anyone can drive to amazing destinations, but the things we "SEA" from the water require some nautical know how! As we left Cayo Caracoles we decided to check out the harbor opposite the town! There were sailboat masts visible above the mangrove island that blocked our view so being a shoal draft vessel (4'2) we headed in! We found an amazing waterfront community of homes with boats in "garages" ready to hit the water and have fun! And then our depth sounder started blinking... WTH Garmin fail when you need it most... and THEN we saw the mud swirling behind the boat! What to do??? Turn as tightly as a Morgan 41 OI can (a bit like and old lady in a big old Buick...) and follow our tracks back the "safe" way we came in! And of course, the Garmin quit blinking... (transducer was out of the mud!) No harm, no foul! We continued on our way and as we passed Lajas we was the blimp! We have the same blimp in the lower keys, and common knowledge is that it's a weather reporting tool... maybe, but we Googled it and found out that it is a low level radar surveillance tool operated by Uncle Sam (your tax dollars at work). As we got near the southwest corner, we approached the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse. The cliffs are breath taking from our water vantage, and impressively scary from land! Cracks, cervices, fissures, and holes are every where! Even a memorial stone carved with the name of a 24 yo who fell, and died... How scary is that? Faro Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo was built in 1882 by Spain, automated after the 1967 renovation. Still guiding ships safely thru the Mona Passage. After rounding the corner of Puerto Rico and heading north up the coast we were treated to a beautiful, long, sandy beach that ends a the harbor of Bahia De Boqueron. We sailed in and dropped our anchor... And the rest is for the NEXT video! Please Like, share & Subscribe to our channel- it would mean the WORLD to us to have your support!
