February 1st - What Are You Waiting For? - Pastor Vieth - Luke

From Malachi’s promise of the coming Lord, to the psalmist’s hope for the King of Glory, to the cries of those enslaved by fear in Hebrews, and finally to Simeon and Anna awaiting Israel’s consolation, Scripture shows God’s people living in expectation. Waiting is a universal human experience—sometimes trivial, sometimes deeply painful—and it often feels so hard because it forces us into uncertainty. In that space, what we give our attention to begins to shape our identity. While suffering and fear should not be ignored, the sermon calls hearers to examine whether their hearts are centered on the things of the flesh or the things of the Spirit. God meets us in the waiting by sending Jesus, the Light of the World, to walk with us in the darkness. Through tangible gifts like the candle and the Eucharist, Christ strengthens, refines, and frees us, enabling us—like Simeon—to wait in peace, having seen God’s salvation.
