In this video I demonstrate the capabilities of these stone offerings from shapton. The 220 SG is a fantastic extra coarse stone for edge repair, bevel setting, reprofiling, and thinning. It will do the work of a comparable micron/mesh diamond stone in about the same time but leave you with a much finer finish and a perfectly serviceable edge. The 320 is a replacement for my incredibly soft cerax 320. It’s a fast cutter while still remaining hard and flat through my sharpening sessions. The 500 double thickness is one of my favorite stones of this bunch. Just as hard as the 220 & 320 but is 5mm thicker. This stone surprised me most of all with how fast it removes steel and how crisp of an apex it leaves. I would recommend all of these stones for anyone looking for coarse stones to add to their line up. Very slow wearing, extremely fast cutting, and leaves finishes higher than their respective grits. Disclaimer Certain steels react differently on certain stones. That said I believe these stones will cut most steels with relative ease. That can’t be said for my Cerax 320. I think it is better suited for wide bevel japanese high carbon knives.
