"Hey man, as you can see, a lot of times I lost my mind," Isiah Thomas told Klay Thompson in 2018. "I'm fortunate that the big guys during that period of time, now that I see them now, I'm glad they looked at me with compassion and just looked at me like, 'Man, what's wrong with you?' Because really they just could have been like BOOM and then my life would have been over." Isiah & Klay interview (16:40 mark for comments): • Видео For the record, Rick Mahorn and Isiah Thomas had been teammates a season prior, winning the 1989 NBA championship. On account of their staggering depth, the Pistons were forced to leave Mahorn unprotected in the 1989 Expansion Draft, at which point he ended up in Philadelphia (after refusing to report to Minnesota). By all accounts, Thomas was intimately familiar with Mahorn's dirty play (Mark Price had been concussed by a Mahorn elbow the season prior). As such, it may be fair to imagine that Thomas knew what was behind Mahorn's seemingly innocuous butt-bump and stiff-arm. Also, in Thomas' own words, sometimes he just lost his mind. April 19, 1990 - Less than a year after helping the Detroit Pistons earn their first NBA championship, Rick Mahorn returned to the Palace as a Philadelphia 76er and found himself in the middle of multiple skirmishes during his team's 107-97 victory. First, former teammate Isiah Thomas took two swipes at Mahorn's head. Later, a Mahorn dunk would incite a full-on brawl most famously remembered for Bill Laimbeer and Charles Barkley's fisticuffs. The resulting punishments: Suspensions – Bill Laimbeer (1 game), Charles Barkley (1 game), Scott Hastings (1 game); Fines: Laimbeer ($20,000), Barkley ($20,000), Hastings ($10,000), Isiah Thomas ($7,500), 10 players ($500 a piece for leaving the bench), each team ($50,000 for failing to control its players).
