Dr. Fred Redekop, associate professor of Counseling and Student Affairs at Kutztown University, discusses the inspiration behind his teaching and how he applies his research in the classroom. In an attempt to connect theory and practice, Redekop became interested in Freud. In November 2014, Redekop's book "Psychoanalytic Approaches for Counselors" will be published. The book provides a perspective on Freud that shows his relevance to contemporary counseling. Themes shown in Freud's work are also important in counseling today. Counselors use various techniques to foster a therapeutic relationship and motivate the client to use their dormant resources.
