Severe Water Crisis in Puntland & Somaliland | Emergency Action to Save Lives

Communities across Puntland and Somaliland are facing a devastating water crisis after more than a year without rain. Traditional water sources have dried up, forcing families to depend on expensive water trucking and to move livestock long distances in search of water and pasture. These challenges are placing immense strain on host communities and worsening malnutrition, as seasonal rains continue to fall far below expectations. In response to this growing emergency, the IFRC Water Supply Rehabilitation Emergency Response Unit, with support from the Norwegian Red Cross, has carried out a critical assessment to support the Somali Red Crescent Society’s emergency appeal.
