Today we are in my favorite room...OR 4 with a very special patient!! This is a very healthy and active 68 year old all the way from Taiwan that came all the way to San Diego so I can perform his surgery!! He has been suffering from left sided low back pain and left lateral shin and foot numbness that is preventing him from road-biking, running and playing basketball. His pain and disability has continued despite various non-operative treatments. Due to his active lifestyle, minimally invasive surgery is going to be his best option to get him back to life, quickly. Thus, today we will be using the Laser Endoscopic Technique (i.e., the “LESS” procedure) where we create a little poke hole, use the spaghetti noodle dilater to enter the canal through the interlaminar approach, remove the disc herniation and any loose fragments, make sure his nerves are totally free and then put a little bandaid on there!!
