It was built in two series. Series 1 included 57 locomotives delivered in four batches, all with a boiler overpressure of 8 bar. The first two batches (1863 and 1864) featured a large goblet-shaped smokestack and an open driver's platform with a windshield. The third and fourth batches (1865-1867) introduced a roof over the driver's platform, cylindrical or pear-shaped smokestacks, and a feedwater injector and pump. Series 2, delivered in five batches, increased the boiler overpressure to 10 bar. The first two batches (1867-1869) were unusual in being peat-fired and hauled a covered peat tender.
