Believe it or not, humans have been utilizing Cannabis for the last 8,000 years. As far back as 6,000 BCE, hemp seeds were eaten or used as oil in Ancient China The Chinese also made textiles from hemp starting in 4,000 BCE, and later used hemp to make paper. For the Ancient Egyptians, cannabis was used as an eye treatment, a remedy for gynecological disorders, for migraines, fevers, bladder problems, and as a treatment for….ehm, diarrhea. The Chinese prescribed it for fatigue, rheumatism, and malaria. While in India cannabis was used for anxiety, as well as for religious and recreational purposes. In the U.S., Cannabis products were widely sold in pharmacies and general stores as a remedy for stomach pains, coughs, and gonorrhea throughout the mid-1800s. Recreational usage started in the early 1900s until The Marijuana Tax Act of 1937 criminalized Cannabis nationwide, after which the Controlled Substances Act of 1970 listed marijuana as a Schedule I drug. From the 1940s until the last decade, research into the medicinal benefits of Cannabis in the US came to a halt, and studies around the world were few and far between. In recent years, however, both voters and politicians worldwide have looked more favorably on Cannabis. It's now legal for medical use in 22 countries, including the UK, Canada, Germany, and 33 US states. So whether, eaten or smoked, used as a cure or to make clothing, the Cannabis plant has had an incredible journey. Learn more about medical marijuana: cannigma.com/?utm_source=youtube
