Unlike traditional statues, the temple houses only a mouth, widely opened to 15 cms, covered by the metal face of the god. The temple is open till afternoon, with the belief that devatas perform pujas at night. Offering jaggery water by conch is a fascinating ritual – the Lord seems to audibly drink it with a distinctive gargling sound, culminating in a shrill crescendo. Legends say that even a single ant is nowhere to be found near the Lord or the temple despite the offerings.
