Five good reasons why - We stopped caring about achievements

Hearing that sound used to make us very happy. But not anymore. These days we don't give a shit about gamer score whether it is on Xbox, Playstation or Steam. Here are five good reasons why we stopped caring about achievements. 1. The novelty has worn off When the Xbox 360 first came out we loved earning achievement points. It was fun trying to stay in front of friends and brag about how our gamer score was so much higher than theirs. But that was nine years ago and nowadays the novelty has certainly worn off. 2. Not caring makes games more enjoyable Not caring about achievements has made gaming much more enjoyable for us. Simply playing a game without feeling the need to grind out every single achievement makes the whole experience way better. It's liberating to play a game without feeling the need to look at the achievements list every two seconds. 3. Playing games just for achievements sucks Going after achievements can take you to some very dark places. Like playing a Viva Piñata racing game at two in the morning only because you've heard the achievements in that game are easy to get. Everybody who has a thousand points in Avatar knows what we are talking about. 4. Playing crappy multiplayer sucks Playing a crappy game because the achievements are easy is one thing. But playing the horrible multiplayer mode of game because the developer attached half of the achievements to it sucks even more. Being forced to play multiplayer just to get a thousand points or a Platinum Trophy was and always will be a load of crap. 5. You are no longer a puppet of developers Caring about achievements puts you at the mercy of developers and boy have they abused it over the years. Like the 'Bladder of Steel' achievement in Rock Band 2 that makes you play through al eighty four songs without pausing the game for a toilet break. Or the 'Seriously 3.0' Achievement in Gears of War 3 where you need six thousand kills with every weapon in the game and bunch more ridiculously time consuming things. Or the 'My Kung Fu Is Stronger' achievement in Mortal Kombat that asks you to play twenty four hours with every single fighter in the game. With twenty eight fighters that means you’re going to spend fourteen 24-hour days trying to get the achievement. Anyone who has this achievement needs to seriously re-evaluate their life.
