How to Load and Fire a Cannon in the American War of Independence

The process of loading and firing a cannon from the 18th Century is a fairly complicated one. While the basic principle is basically the same as with a smaller musket, ramming a charge of powder and shot down a long barrel before igniting it from the outside, the scale of these weapons (even the smaller ones!) means that you need an entire team of highly trained artillerymen to operate them. There is a very specific order of tasks which must be completed for every round that is fired, each one vital to the functioning and security of the gun and its crew.
