The Swiss Army Knife: From AI to Meta-AI for Research

In this hands-on workshop, Mac Nguyen guides participants in using large language models (LLMs) as META-AI to create trusted, reusable research assistants. He demonstrates how to move from one-off chats to validated prompts and custom GPTs that preserve persona, context, and rules. Attendees practice role–task–context–format prompting, stress-test outputs for hallucinations, and apply human-in-the-loop checks to accelerate research without sacrificing rigor. Nhan Thanh Nguyen (Mac) is a Graduate Student Fellow at the Centre for Global Studies (CFGS), and a PhD Candidate in “Management and Organization” at Gustavson School of Business (GSB), UVic. Mac’s research focuses on social evaluations, cultural constructions of organization, regenerative sustainability, and innovation. His recent publication emphasizes the role of ecological knowledge in place-based sustainability. His paper on regenerative innovation won the ONE Best Student Paper at the 2024 Academy of Management conference (AOM, Chicago).
