After the rise of parachutes at the end of the First World War, an international rule was set up: Do not target airmen falling to earth in a chute. This rule was ignored by many pilots from many different nations, but the case of Major Richard Peterson is unique. After witnessing a German fighter pilot massacring falling bomber crews, Peterson took it upon himself to put a stop to it. In this video, I look at what happened on that day and exactly what the attitude was to targetting parachuting aircrew from all belligerent nations.
