This is the Arden St level crossing in North Melbourne, on the Upfield Railway Line, with footage I took in January and October 2016, June and September 2017, and December 2018. This crossing has: Two Westinghouse Hybrid bells. The bell on the eastern side is programmed to sound out after the boom gates have lowered. The bell on the western side is programmed to sound continuously until the boom gates rise Westinghouse cross-arms Marked Westinghouse lights Westinghouse boom gate mechanisms with unmarked bases This crossing is unique, as it is located beneath the Citylink tollway (as is Macaulay Rd in North Melbourne). During the early 1990's, discussions were made to convert the Upfield railway line to light rail, following the successful conversions of the Port Melbourne and St Kilda railway line's. Part of the reasoning was because this section in North Melbourne was to make way for Citylink tollway. Fortunately, the decision was made to instead upgrade the line and build Citylink above on a bridge. Macaulay stabling sidings are located right next to this crossing. They previously extended north beyond the crossing, resulting in the intersection originally having six tracks (thanks Applehead 137 for that info). They have since been removed. Two disused tracks for the sidings are still embedded in the road There is cab footage on YouTube of this crossing back in 1991 before Citylink was constructed above. You can also see that there was an additional signal in the median strip on the western side. The crossing appears at 00:42 • Down Upfield 1992
