After the historic outdoor hockey game at Beaver Stadium, the hockey adventure wasn’t over yet. We head right across the street to Pegula Ice Arena to catch the Penn State Nittany Lions women’s ice hockey in action. First discovery of the night? The concession stands selling Auntie Anne’s pretzels and Subway sandwiches. Not exactly your typical hockey arena food lineup, but hey… no complaints here. One of the coolest things about going to a Penn State women’s hockey game is that admission is free, which means you can sit almost anywhere you want—as long as it’s behind the benches. Not a bad deal at all. Once the puck drops, the game gets interesting quickly. Penn State’s opponent gets on the board exactly halfway through the first period. Then, just like the men’s outdoor game earlier in the day, another goal comes flying in about 15 seconds into the second period, putting Penn State down 2-0 early. But the Nittany Lions weren’t about to let things get out of hand. About 20 seconds later, Penn State fires back with a goal of their own… and the comeback is on. Not long after that, the Lions tie the game and suddenly the arena starts buzzing. Chaos follows as Penn State lights the lamp two more times, scoring four goals in the second period alone and completely flipping the game on its head. In the third period, things go back and forth, but Penn State adds one more goal for good measure to build a three-goal lead and seal the victory. After the win, the team sings the Penn State Alma Mater, keeping the long-standing Penn State tradition alive. On the way out of the arena we check out some of the trophies in the program’s collection and see the statue of the arena’s namesake, Terry Pegula. But the night’s chaos isn’t done yet… Outside the arena we talk about a major development in Pennsylvania’s greatest convenience store rivalry: the first Wawa in State College is being built directly across the street from a Sheetz. Yes… the battle lines have officially been drawn. We wrap things up back at the car with a recap of the day—from outdoor hockey at Beaver Stadium to an unexpected comeback win inside Pegula. Not a bad day for hockey in Happy Valley. #phillywaldo #pennstate #beaverstadium #outdoorhockey #hockey #collegehockey Follow for more crazy adventures Instagram: thephillywaldo Facebook: PhillyWaldo TikTok: thephillywaldo If you see Todd tell him he sucks!!!
