Socotra, A Rustic Paradise (15 days exploring the most alien-looking place on earth)

Imagine an island, only 82 miles long and 26 miles wide, but it has so much to offer: from rugged mountain peaks to the deep green wadis hidden in the canyons; from the white sandy beaches to turquoise sea; from the playful dolphins to the fish to swim with or to catch for dinner; from over 1,000 ft tall white sand dunes to mile long caves; and those iconic endemic plants: dragon blood trees, bottle trees, cucumber trees, and those mountain goats, Egyptian vultures……Is this the long-lost paradise? But, it is in Yemen, named Socotra, luckily no war on the island. Only accessible by chattered flight from Abu Dhabi, only camping outside the capital, most of time no running water, no toilets at campsites, and it has the most dangerous mountain road…… So I call it a rustic paradise, not paradise for everyone. But with good preparation, I had no trouble for the 15 days on the island, climbing, hiking, caving, swimming, beaching, fishing, playing with animals……exploring almost every corner of the island, recording the beauty of this most alien-looking place on earth.
