For the past 18 months Impact Policy has been funding and investing into community based basketball programs across Sydney city communities. As a team we have decades of front line youth work experience as well as senior executive policy and program development experience through the work we do at Impact Policy. This includes across areas like youth justice where there is much talk about 'early intervention' or 'innovative' responses to youth at risk or those in communities at higher risk of at risk behaviour. It is our belief though, that early intervention looks like just ensuring all young people have equitable access to the same opportunities to participate fully in their communities like any other kid in their classroom. And it is this premise that has inspired the investment into this program. Inspired by our founder Sam Johnsons journey with his own daughters, there was a clear and identified gap for girls only programs and pathways that broke down the barriers in place for children and families to fully be able to access these opportunities. In 2026, we are building on the magic from our first year with the pro bono support of Gilbert and Tobin and registering as a not for profit organisation. This is only the beginning.
