Not many people get the chance to play an almost 100 year old Martin next to a brand new one, but if you make the drive to Telluride, ask nicely, and we still have them both, maybe you'll be one of the lucky few. Fret not however, we made a video just in case. While the 12-fret 0-28 may not be Martin's most popular model, it has a well-rounded voice with impressive balance, bass content, and output for a small-body guitar. They are comfortable, articulate, and make a great songwriting companion. The 012-28 Modern Deluxe packs custom features and modern technology into a 12-fret parlor guitar package. It uses the same body design as the prewar 12-fret 0, and it has a torrefied Spruce (VTS) top and East Indian Rosewood back and sides. Paying homage to the storied tradition of Martin guitars, it features a dovetail neck joint and natural protein glue constriction—just like the prewar masterpieces that came before it! One of 124 made in 1927, this 0-28 features Adirondack Spruce, Herringbone top trim and Brazilian Rosewood back and sides. During the '20s, Martin was transitioning from the early-20th century shellac finishes towards the nitrocellulose lacquer that would become standard for the following 80+ years. This 0-28 features the transition-period thin satin finish that makes some '20s guitar special. Some Martin historians argue that this finish helps give the guitar its airy "open" resonant sound. Honestly, we are pretty impressed with the playability and tone of the Modern Deluxe, but there's no denying a pre-war Martin with Brazilian Rosewood and Herringbone trim. Both have something to offer, and both are begging to be played. Check back in 90 years when we do another follow up. 1927 Martin 0-28 https://telluridemusiccompany.com/col...
