I found the small 35cut skinny to be too small today, I believe it was also shimmed .5degrees… For the bigger swell, it got a bit lost behind the 1401… it also let the 1401 run free into speeds that were too hard to handle. Im now realising the 35 I have is more suited to making the most out of small energy days, especially with the 1401 in the smallest bumps. In those conditions the efficiency makes the biggest difference. I also like it paired with the 1201 in medium conditions where I can try hit some top speed and utilise the extra glide. Paired with the 1180 it also frees up the system and lets you throw everything around. It will punish you though if you go to lean on it… it’s not always there in the turns… for a heavier footed surf my 45skinny cut to 265mm is potentially better. I felt a bit stressed trying to paddle up here with the smaller board and sitting out towards tiri channel where things feel more alive.
