In August of 2017 I was bike-packing across Iceland for one month. It was my first one month long bike-packing-trip and the first time on Iceland. I started at the airport in Kevlavik where I cycled along the south coast to Selfoss. From here I headed north through the highlands on the ruff F35 road. It took me three days to get to the north coast but I have to say that the weather was on my side and I am really glad for that! After that I went to Akureyri (biggest city on the north coast) where I stayed for two days. Not far away was a small Village called Dalvik where I just happened to be for the annual Fishfestival. This was an amazing experience with many different kinds of dishes all about Fish, which was given away for free. In the evening they had build a huge stage and closed the Festival with a two hour concert of various artists and a big firework. Glad that I was there just at the right time I continued to cycle along the coast. When I arrived in Skagaströnd, my chain broke and one of my front gears was damaged too. It took quite some time to fix the broken chain (Never done that before but I had a spare one with me, so I had to figure it out in the middle of nowhere.) After Skagaströnd I went down to Reykjavik by bus where I stayed for two nights. I have to admit that the capital of Iceland did not impress me very much and I felt much more comfortable on small campsites in small villages. At that time I was traveling for three weeks alone and it felt somewhere strange to have that many people around. On my last week of travel I decided to go to Selfoss again and than follow the south coast back to the airport. My plan was to take it easy since I started to miss home and my energy was starting to run out as well. This was when the weather went south as well. It is hard to show in a short movie what it is like to be cycling in rain for hours with no warm place to relax for a while. Especially hard was the next morning when I had to get back into my soaking wet shoes to continue my ride! In addition the wind picked up. Coming from the side it was hard to just ride in a straight line and I got almost blown of the street a couple of times. Gladly everything worked out just fine and I made it back to Kevlavik where I spend my last night before returning home. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Over all this trip was an amazing experience and I cannot wait to do something like that again. There will alway be good and bad times and I would not want to miss either of them. If you like what I do I'd be happy if you subscribe to my channel or follow me on Instagram at GnuTraveler - / gnutraveler where I post regularly during my trips. Finally I want to thank Mani Orrason, / @mániorrason-v6x Rising Appalachia / risingappalachiara and Nahko and Medicin for the People / medicineforthepeople for letting me use their amazing music! I have heard them on the trip all the time and now I am really happy that their music is in my movie. All the love, Mark
