In this episode of "Trail Mix'd," we travel the state to learn about the people who are giving their time, energy and sometimes even their lives to care for and protect our wildlands. Explore some of Arizona's conservation techniques and learn about the vital importance of protecting our water and wildlands. First, Jayarr takes us through the journey of what it means to be a "hotshot": firefighters who work in especially extreme conditions. In 2013, a team of 19 hotshots gave their lives while fighting the Yarnell Hill Fire, and are honored at the Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park. The Granite Mountain Hotshot Memorial Trail gives you the moving story of the Hotshots who lost their lives, while also providing beautiful views of the mountainous region surrounding the area. Next, we take a look at some of the organizations taking care of our state. First, we join the Arizona Trail Association as they teach us how they restore overgrown parts of trails all around the state, allowing hikers the opportunity to explore new parts of their favorite outdoor spots. Then we learn more about Arizona's water conservation in the Lower San Pedro River with the Nature Conservancy. As our state grows hotter, preserving and maintaining our water sources is more vital than ever. #exploreArizona #hiking Featured in this episode: Granite Mountain Hotshots Memorial State Park: https://azstateparks.com/hotshots Thanks to @AZStateParks Connect with us: Learn more about Trail Mix'd and sign up for Arizona PBS newsletters: https://azpbs.org/trailmixd Arizona PBS on Instagram: / arizonapbs Arizona PBS on Facebook: / arizonapbs Use Trail Mix'd in the classroom: https://az.pbslearningmedia.org/colle...
