Syd “Squid” Silver and her gang of school friends formed the influential punk band “Lunachicks” in 1987 and she went on to create Roebling Tea Room - one of the earliest and coolest restaurants in the now-world-famously-trendy Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York. In this conversation with CGO, Syd discusses: the new Lunachicks documentary film (screening in London); the Lunachicks book “Fallopian Rhapsody” - the story of Lunachicks with Jeanne Fury; the early days of forming Lunachicks at LaGuardia High School - and playing together again; the circumstances surrounding the creation of Roebling Tea Room; supporting and being part of the pre-gentrification arts scene in Williamsburg Brooklyn in 2004; becoming a consultative boss and successful small business owner; supporting Planned Parenthood and women’s and LGBTQ rights; and her iconic early 70’s Fender Precision Bass inspired by Paul Simonon of The Clash and Dee Dee Ramone!
