I went to gatefront in Limgrave, and make sure only one thorn hits. With 2 pieces (armor and gloves), it hits 695 damage. Then I removed the two pieces, and it hits 617. According to wiki, each piece boosts 6% damage. So two pieces would give 12% increase, which is 617*1.12 = 691. So the math seems to match.
