[ASL] Trump Endorsed Eugenics. Deaf People Know Where That Leads.

Trump told Fox News that some immigrants have "bad genetics." Deaf people know exactly where that rhetoric leads. On Thursday, March 12, 2026, Trump did a Fox News Radio interview with Brian Kilmeade. This interview aired on Friday, March 13. As you can see in this clip, this was Trump's exact words: “There’s something wrong there. The genetics are not exactly your genetics, it’s one of those problems, Brian,” Trump said. “It’s a terrible thing, and it happens, it happens too often.” (https://newrepublic.com/post/207774/d...) First, let's give a little bit of context regarding the "immigrants" Trump was talking about. Recently, there were two incidents involving naturalized American citizens. The first incident occurred in Michigan, where a naturalized citizen born in Lebanon drove an explosive-laden truck into a Jewish synagogue. Thankfully, other than the attacker, there were no deaths. The second incident involves an army vet, who had been previously imprisoned due to terrorist actions, then released early, entering a ROTC class at Old Dominion University in Virginia. When he had breached the class, he shouted "Allah Akbar" (an Arabic phrase meaning "God is great") and shot the ROTC teacher, killing him. He also wounded two other ROTC students before being subdued and killed himself. He was born in Sierra Leone, and was a naturalized American citizen. While it is true that both attackers were immigrants, they did not "sneak in," as Trump claimed. That's a false premise, a logical fallacy I'll cover in my series later on. Both of them were naturalized citizens, meaning they followed the long and arduous legal process to become citizens. The ODU killer even served time in the American armed forces. Putting that aside, what is really concerning to me is Trump's comment about immigrants having "bad genes." That's eugenics talk, and this is not the first time Trump has shared such beliefs. One such example is in the picture I showed at the beginning of this podcast, where Trump took the side of American Eagle in their jeans ad controversy featuring Sydney Sweeney a few months ago. Trump has also stated that he had "good genes," that immigrants were "polluting America," and all sorts of other comments that eerily parallel the eugenics movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s. And as a Deaf person, that is highly concerning to me. And frankly, it should be very concerning to y'all Deaf MAGAs as well. In case you've forgotten your history, you know who else was a huge supporter of eugenics? The most hated figure in Deaf history ... A.G. Bell himself. You know all about his ugly history, about how he tried so hard to promote oralism, outlaw sign language, and prevent Deaf intermarriage. You know about how he was the driving force behind the 1880 Milan Conference that resulted in sign language being banned from being taught to Deaf children all over the world, driving a once-flourishing Deaf community directly underground. It took over a century, until the 1988 DPN movement, before ASL finally became accepted again. And A.G. Bell did all of that in the name of eugenics, because he honestly believed that deafness was an inferior trait to be eradicated. And that's what you MAGA Deaf people don't get. That's what hearing MAGA people think of you, as something to be gotten rid of. The only reason we haven't been targeted yet is because, frankly, we're an incredibly small subpopulation in America, easily overlooked. MAGA is targeting immigrants, trans people, and Black people right now. But what do you think will happen once those populations have been taken care of? Sooner or later, they will finally set their eyes on the disabled population and Deaf people. And they will view us as inferior and want to get rid of us. We've seen this happen before in history. A.G. Bell tried to do it to us. Deaf people were targeted for sterilization during 1930s Germany (and then eventually experimented upon, in an effort to "cure" deafness). Check out the T4 Program in Germany if you're curious. All of that in the name of eugenics. So when President Trump starts spouting off eugenics talk, that should deeply concern every single one of us Deaf people. It's utterly baffling to me why Deaf MAGA just don't get it at all and still support Trump wholeheartedly. "We voted for this," you keep on saying.
