Meet Sofia Hernandez Williams, a Junior Division semifinalist in the 29th Annual Sphinx Competition. Sofia is a 12 year old cellist from Worcester, Massachusetts. She began learning cello at age five after discovering that even her toy violin felt more natural on her lap. Since then, she has earned top honors, including first place in the Boston Youth Symphony Concerto Competition in 2025 and the Richter String Competition in 2023. She made her professional debut with Cape Symphony in 2025 performing Saint Saens Cello Concerto No. 1. Sofia is currently preparing Brahms Sonata in E minor and is excited to play her first full recital program this December. She hopes to become a professional cello soloist and sees Sphinx as an important opportunity to share her music with new audiences.
