Nearly 300,000 people cast their ballots Tuesday in Bexar County. It's the morning after primary election day in Texas and winners are declared, some races are headed to runoffs, and the road to November is officially underway. Several key races in and around San Antonio saw decisive outcomes and tight contests. In Bexar County’s Democratic primary for county judge, former San Antonio mayor Ron Nirenberg won a clear victory over incumbent Peter Sakai, capturing about 62% of the vote and securing the Democratic nomination. In the highprofile U.S. Senate contests, Sen. John Cornyn and Attorney General Ken Paxton did not secure outright majorities in the Republican primary and are headed to a May runoff to determine the GOP nominee in the general election. On the Democratic side, State Rep. James Talarico won the nomination for the U.S. Senate, defeating Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett in a closely watched race. Meanwhile, Republican Rep. Tony Gonzales also emerged as a nominee but is set for a runoff in his District23 contest after falling short of a majority.
