During a ceremony at the U.S. Capitol, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell remembered the late Rep. Elijah Cummings as a public servant determined to do what was best for his constituents. “He climbed the ranks here in the capitol, not because he outgrew his hometown, but because he was so committed to it,” McConnell said. Cummings died earlier in the month from complications associated with longtime health challenges. He lay in state at the U.S. Capitol on Oct. 24, giving the public the opportunity to pay their respects.
