Jelmar’s Resort in the Dinagat Islands looks like something pulled straight from a movie screen—crystal-clear turquoise water, dramatic island backdrops, and that untouched, remote feeling you travel for. Visually? Stunning. No question. But the vibe? That’s where the plot twist kicks in. Between nonstop karaoke echoing through the "resort" and staff yelling at each other—and sometimes at guests—the atmosphere felt more like a low-budget horror film than a laid-back island escape. I didn’t find the place very welcoming, especially compared to so many other warm, inviting spots across the Philippines. We had very bad weather this day and the staff turned away other boats seeking refuge from the high swells. Jelmar’s feels very much geared toward locals, and there’s definitely a strong local clique vibe here. That said, not everything missed the mark. I tried Piso Net for the first time—and honestly, that was fantastic. Simple, cheap, and surprisingly useful while being off the grid. If you’re planning to stay overnight at Jelmar’s, bring your own food. Trust me—you’ll be glad you did. Self-sufficiency goes a long way here. One thing’s for sure: getting here is part of the adventure. The journey alone adds to the story, and Dinagat itself remains wild, raw, and beautiful. Would I come back? Maybe—but Id like to stay at Sophies Resort close by instead.
