The day before this, my brother told me there was no way I’d make it through this trail with an ATV....As usually I HAD to go do it!! At first, it was actually going fine. The ATV was floating on top of the snow and moving along better than expected. Then I put it in differential lock. That was the mistake. Going forward in diff lock works until it doesn’t — and once you’re stuck like that, there’s no backing out of it. In regular four wheel drive you can usually rock it and get yourself free, but not this time. At 21 below, that meant bringing another ATV in and pulling it out the hard way. Just deep snow, cold air, and doing what needed to be done, with the dog along like usual. To make it worse, the ATV died right as it was getting stuck. At 21 below, the battery was so cold it wouldn’t provide enough power anymore. That meant no moving it under its own power at all. Join the fun!
