'English as a Lingua Franca and the Base Nacional Comum Curricular' by Priscila Bordon

This is part of BrELT English as Lingua Franca Week 2018. ------ The new Base Nacional Comum Curricular brings the concept of English being used as a lingua Franca. But what are the implications of ELF in education? In this talk, I will present concepts that are key to understanding ELF in education in an accessible way that can bring awareness to the use of English as an international language as well as present ideas of how middle and high school teachers can present the idea of English being a Lingua Franca in class. Priscila Bordon is a public school English teacher from Pindamonhangaba, São Paulo. She holds a BA in Languages and Literature and is currently seeking a master’s degree in Global Englishes in the University of Southampton. She is a former Fulbright Scholar, and a Chevening Scholar for the 2017-2018 academic year. She is one of the BrELT moderators and organizer of the BrELT ELF Week.
