For four days every week, Dr. Meghann Kruck is on her feet, performing surgeries in the back of a bus. While she performs surgery on one cat or dog, another one is being prepped to be spayed or neutered. She does about 30 to 40 surgeries a day. "In the last year and a half, I've done 10, 000 surgeries and I still love doing it," said Dr. Kruck. "I have done more surgeries in one year than most vets have done in a lifetime." Dr. Kruck is passionate about animal overpopulation, so a year ago, she bought a clinic on wheels called the Kindest Cut. "There are just not enough homes for all the animals," said Dr. Kruck. "We want to help you, help your pets, end overpopulation." The clinic provides high-volume spay and neutering for families that couldn't otherwise afford it. Low overhead and donations keep the costs down. A spay or neuter in a clinic can cost from $150 to $500. At Kindest Cut, if you qualify, the surgeries only cost $30 to $40, with other services like vaccines offered at a discount too. "They all get a surgical exam and we trim their nails while they are in surgery. It's an extremely high quality surgery," said Dr. Kruck. The workers see cats and dogs and sometimes rabbits. In the 20 communities they visit, Kindest Cut stays more than busy, but workers say they see plenty of happy endings. "There's not a lot of sadness in what we are doing. We're helping lots of people and helping lots of animals so there's a good feeling at end of the day," said Dr. Kruck.
