About Bath Hotel Built around 1800, the imposing cut-stone structure was constructed by enslaved Africans and is widely regarded as the oldest hotel in the Caribbean. The Bath Hotel is among the few surviving non-military, non-estate, and non-government structures in the Caribbean noted for its remarkable scale, design, and setting. Originally known as the Bath House or Bath House Hotel, it was purpose-built to serve visitors drawn to the island’s famous therapeutic hot spring waters. –—————————————————————————————————————————————————— With funding from the U.S. Embassy's Ambassador's Fund for Cultural Preservation, The Nevis Historical and Conservation Society (NHCS) undertook the tall order of restoring the hotel which had been abandoned and derelict for several years and was reduced to a state of disrepair and structural instability. The NHCS spent over two years working to restore the hotel to a space that is safe, structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing.
