An introduction to Glenn Nelsons' MCM (Manual gearbox Control Module) a CANBUS solution ! This addresses one of the most difficult problems in converting an Automatic AJV8 Jaguar to Manual transmission. The Automatic gearbox is integral to the cars electronic control. The standard gearboxes TCM (Transmission Control Module) communicates to the rest of car via CANBUS. When the gearbox is removed the TCM doesn't receive any of the expected signals via the CANBUS. This lack of information doesn't allow a number of module to operate properly and the Engine Management Light is lit, resulting in limp mode etc. Glenns idea is record the normal automatic gearbox signals and replay them via an MCM so the car thinks the gearbox is still present. In principle its sounds simple but in practice its more complex than that.
