Caronia is a tiny village with ancient origins dating back to the Greek period. The first settlement of Caronia was founded by Greeks in 447 BC. Later the village was conquered and ruled by Federico D’Aragona. In 1531 the feudal town was acquired by the Ventimiglia family, one of the most important Sicilian family of that period. The most important monuments of the village are the Castle, built in the 12th century under the Norman domination, today is a private propriety; the Mother Church of San Biagio, built in the 12th century, has one nave and includes some precious paintings; the Church of Maria SS Annunziata is one of the oldest church of the village; the Bosco Museum hosts a collection of well preserved ancient typical artefacts which describe the customs and tradition of this charming village.
