**UPDATED 2021-06-24 below** The original is so hard to manouvre through the gap in the tank, doing this every 20.000km is a pain. When my fuelline broke inside the tank, I discovered that moving the filter below the tank is an enormeous improvement. Maintenance is simple to do, getting the pump in or out easy, even with one hand. Mind you, to install proper submercible tube which is expensive at 40€/M and Oetiker rings that are a very reliable permanent fix. UPDATE: 1) the quick-fix fuel line connector on the tank does NOT close once fuel line is detached!! Therefor try to undo it with a nearly empty tank, makes it much easier. Keep a cloth close by or put your finger immediately on the pumpside of the fuel line to prevent spillage. 2) disconnect the fuelpump electric connector with a running engine, in order to release the pressure in the fuel line to the injectors and disconnect more easily the quick-fix underneath the tank. Be carefull not to break the red tube coming from the pump, I always thought that breaking it means a complete new pump!! But as you can read below this is not the case : Thanks to @trailrider737 (see below): ----------------------------------------------------------------- " Red tube coming out of the pump can be replaced. I broke mine and replaced with a Ford Fiesta one. A little grub screw inside the pump housing needs to be removed and the broken bit levered out gently. Replacing is a straight forward push fit and replacing the grub screw. Quite a saving on a new pump. " 3) what looks like a breather tube going up from the chassis inside upto the filler cap, is in fact only an overflow drain, in case you spill petrol during filling. Nevertheless it should never be forgotten during reinstalling of the tank.
